Hi, can any one help, I am looking to put a heater in our van conversion when it’s on the drive not in use, so I think it has to be safe, low running costs as it’s on for weeks, try to keep things dry and Mould free, I have power to the van so no problems there. Any recommendations would be good thanks.
I have an oil filled radiator that I use to warm the caravan when not in use, even then I don't run it continuously just a couple of days a month If I'm not using the van. You can get then at various wattage heat settings - I set mine at 800w and I run the hook up through a 16 amp timer in the house. To be on the safe side its an anti tilt ie if it falls over it switches off automatically.
Why not just take it out for a run every week or so, thats what I do.
If I was going to run a heater me thinks a fan heater would be a better bet.. keeps the air moving.
As long as the van is well ventilated, and that includes free airflow throughout the van, ie all cupboards open, mattress & seat pads/backs lifted and away from the van wall etc and the van is occasionally opened up on fine days, then (as long as the water system is fully drained down?)it shouldn't really need any heating in it..
(I used to occasionally heat our vans, but in truth, that was as much about me kidding myself that I was actually achieving something, as much as anything )
I also have an oil filled radiator.
I only use it during very cold spells because I don't drain the van down over winter and try and use it as often as possible.
I also try and air it on a regular basis but there has been a distinct lack of dry days recently.
------------- It's only an expensive hobby when it's parked on your Drive....use it, love it , live it.
We use a greenhouse heater, low wattage but more importantly, I think, keeps the air circulating. This is the second year we have used it, it seems to be working well despite the long periods of really damp/wet weather we are experiencing this year and not being garaged.
