hi, can anyone recommend a solar panel kit please? I would like to be able to keep both batteries 'topped' up after the leisure battery is full (assuming that's the right sequence of course)
there are lots on well known auction sites and I'm not sure which is best (which is probably the same as asking how long is a piece of string no doubt)
we intend to use a tv in the evenings and have as many kitchen comforts as possible toaster/microwave etc !!
I realise we will also need an inverter and decent sized battery and panel.
can anyone suggest
1 - how to determine what our needs might be
2 - how to determine what size panel and battery we might need to invest in
3 recommend a suitable set up or type of system
4- if possible point me as to where I can get what I need
I am happy to fit it all myself though for the right price I don't mind paying fitting charges. we are I Essex but happy to have it done as part of a 'trip'
I can not help you at all if you hope to run microwave, toaster, TV, and maybe more (electric kettle??)without an electric hook up. Please if you can tell us more of how you will use it and what you could expect a Solar Panel to provide you with.
You will certainly need a monster inverter and a roof full of solar panels to run that lot for any amount of time using the micro wave alone eats battery power.
We are also looking at fitting a solar panel to our motor home, from what I can see if you intend to use an inverter for the kettle or microwave then you might make one cuppa or manage to warm up a tin of beans and that's about it.
If you go ahead then you can get a free nights camping here while you have it fitted, we spoke to them at the Lincoln Motorhome Show last year and they know what they're on about.
thanks. so the microwave is a definite no then except for mains hook up - so that one less appliance using power from the batteries,
we can also brew up and cook using gas -so no need for electric kettle, toaster etc
so now we're left with tv, laptop and phone chargers. have I missed anything we might need? laptop and phone can be done on the move so I suppose the only thing is the tv and satellite dish set up (which we also haven't got yet lol)
I only know of one place that has ALL of the stuff that you need. Their reviews speak for themselves. They are professional, have all of the new technology, they are not cheap, they are the best. I believe you can stay overnight whilst they work on your vehicle. You can also buy the stuff you need to do the job yourself.
'Roadpro' at Daventry.
Just purchased a 2w and 1.8 w solar panels to sit on dash board and plug into live cigarette lighter to keep batteries topped up but unsure if this will trickle charge engine battery or leisure its the leisure one I am wanting to keep charged.
now I just need to select the panels/kit. I'm looking at a 200w set up on the basis that its no extra work to fit higher output panel. I assume so long as i get a decent charge controller I could even add additional panels if I ever wanted to (or change them for higher output ones
I just want to future proof it as much as possible without mirroring my current 4kw solar panel setup at home LOL
