Yea i understand, its the same here nowadays. The O/P if looking for extra cash wouldnt have to tell anyone. He could say he lent it to his mate. If you know what i mean.
The insurance company would no doubt take some convincing if his "friend" did not return the vehicle.
When large companies hire out motorhomes then it is economy of scale. They buy in bulk hire for a year then sell on through their dealerships. Some will get hirer damage & a large company has the clout to ensure the repairs costs are recovered. Also they have workshops to do repairs so vehicle is not off road for long & repairs are at cost.
An individual hiring out his motorhome even through an agent cannot do any of the above so probably not viable on an individual vehicle basis.

Hi Mick,
I apoloigise if I have offended you in any way.
I was just pointing out the dangers of hiring out a motorhome with what we have witnessed.I also totally agree innocent accidents occur but we have witnessed some blatant disregard for some of these vehicles.
I am sure the vast majority of hirers look after their hired motorhomes.
As Colin points out though, your insurance would need to reflect the worst scenarios and the insurance would be through the roof.
Enjoy your camping Mick, once again apologies for any offence.
Regards,
Greg
Hi Greg, no mate no offense taken and i understand where you are coming from. Just trying to say that there are still decent people in the world that will and do the right thing, but in saying that as you know accidents happen and thats why we have travel Insurance
Cheers Mate and happy camping.
Mick
Apart from getting the annual cover for your motorhome with self drive hire on the policy as well, which we all know can be expensive, there is also the option to do pay-as-you-go insurance. Pay-as-you-go means you'll only be paying insurance when the vehicle is actually out on the road and is therefore much cheaper.
If you want to rent out this is actually a great way to do so, I would suggest looking at Sky Insurance and DayInsure for pay-as-you-go.
Renting can be risky if it done by yourself but if you use a rental platform then it is much safer. After all, their entire business relies on rented motorhomes returning safely.
