Hello all, new to the site.

I am currently living a normal life, working, watching TV, getting a curry on Friday nights, going to the pub on Saturday nights. I have just turned 30 and i'm already bored of this, I cannot see myself continuing until 68. It's mundane.

So, I want to give it all up, give away all the stuff i don't use or need and follow a dream I've had for the last few years. I own my flat in Newcastle, i want to rent it out, buy a 6-7k motor home and travel the world in it. I will be living on an income of around £250 per month. My question is, is this possible? Is £250 a month enough to cover expenses and feed/water myself? Is anyone on here doing this?

I then plan to settle somewhere, get a part time job so i can have a few extra luxuries and know that i have no regrets!

Replies appreciated, Thanks

Wow, I’d say fab, go for it! But not sure £250 a month is enough? Is guess you won’t be using any sites to avoid paying to stay. I’d also guess your van is likely to be a diesel, older and paying a lot in car tax. Then there is fuel, running costs, unexpected repairs. Above all this you need to feed yourself etc. You’d generate more income from renting your flat right ?

I hope you can do it! Good luck

I know just the place for you, Classic Hymer facebook page.

If you like the older MH then these are seriously worth looking at, they have a selling page to The Hymermarket.

I absolutely love them OH doesn't he says they are too old.

The members just can't help enough, they are all over place, lots of full timers on there and they tour Morocco, Cyprus, Sweden, Austria, Norway everywhere. and if anything happens or you need advice, there is always someone nearby, lovely community just like UKCS is.

Just say where you are heading and you'll get lots of recommendations and help, go take a look and good luck with your travels

Thank you all for the replies. I'm glad i'm not the only one who wants to just live a simple life, travel the world and see everything there is to see.

£250 a month is after managing agents fees, landlord insurance etc... Maybe saving £1200 to give myself an extra £100 a month, so £350 is more realistic?

I would be planning to wildcamp 2-3 days then stay at a site for a night to charge up, change water etc... Is this possible all over Europe?

Another option would be to buy one of the static mobile homes in Spain and go backpacking around Europe, using that as a base. Would £250 - £350 be enough for site fees and feed/water on these parks (Apologies if wrong question on wrong site).

All I know is, I don't want to be stuck in this rainy, dark rut for longer than I have to

If you MH in europe they have Aires, you can fill up with water and some have grey waste etc., which are very cheap and alot of free camping on beaches, laybys, even overnighting in carparks, beware of early markets striking up though.

I don't own a MH but have been yearning over a Hymer for a couple of years, there is info out there on routes where you can stop for free, Aires nearby towns so you can stock up with food, alot of fulltimers only use campsites when they want to do washing etc .

You need to get on a fulltiming group forum or FB group, loads of info out there and they are all willing to help you.

In the UK theres a guide for using Pub carparks, some have ehu some don't.

I have taken all this info and advice from MH people that are living the dream and looking like they are enjoying it.

Not sure if we have a fulltimers page on here??? as I only wander into this area occasionally as we camp lol

You are not the only one there are thousands of us doing it. If you wildcamp its very much cheaper but campsites are not cheap. Remember you will still have fuel, van maintenance, insurances etc to find. Take a look on 365 motorhome form which is great and will answer all your questions.

Buy a pedal bike and cycle around the planet...See the world, smell the world and taste the world.

Need any inspiration? just google a website called crayguyonabike Lots of blogs on there

There are dozens of folk out there doing this. Cheap adventure living. No fuel required just the odd baguette and pasta and perhaps a set of tyres every 5k miles

Go on...... you know you want to

We have just starting doing, only been away 3 weeks so far
We decided on a budget of £50 per day (2 adults) and so far that is our average. We stay at free parking places or aires and every 3 days or so have a couple of nights at a campsite (ACSI) to use the showers & wash clothes.
I am sure you could do it cheaper, but we didn't want to miss out on experiences because we couldn't afford them.
There is lots of information out there, try:

Good luck!

I'm with Norfal on this one. Go for it. Get Motorhome serviced before you go. You will manage if you are willing to work to supplement your income.
Regret will haunt you if you don't follow your dream.
Don't be sat watching telly when you are 68 wishing you'd followed your dream.
You never know you might make career out of touring.

I am 68 and I would be off in a shot, but missus couldn't stand being away from g/kids for more than 2 or 3 weeks.
