Visited Barnstable on Monday this week parked in Qeens car park, we always have to buy two tickets as we always overhang into the next bay. Returning to van we were given a parking fine. YOU WILL be giving a ticket for doing this, we have appealed but they WILL NOT move on this.
BARNSTABLE IS A FINE TOWN
Assuming you mean Queen Street in Barnstaple there are no motorhome bays offered, there are spaces in the Seven Brethren Lorry Park that can be used by motorhomes.
I live in Barnstaple and as Rob says there are no motorhome or coach spaces at the Queen Street car park.(see below*.)
So despite paying for 2 car spaces 'rules are rules' so can't see any appeal being successful. Sorry!
As an aside our van is a bit smaller than your Kon-Tiki being less than 6M long and only 2.12 wide; we normally use supermarket car parks without any problem.
It's a great place to live btw - especially as a base for 'nipping down' to Cornwall. Only problem we get is those blooming big motorhomes and caravans passing through! (Mind you some of them do at least stop for a while to subsidise our cash-strapped local Council ..)
*Type of Car Park: Short Stay; Height restriction: None; Spaces: 218; Disabled Bays: 14; Reserved Bays: 0; Coach/Motorhome Bays: 0;

------------- The older I get the better I used to be.
It would appear that more and more councils are becoming anti - campervan / motor caravan as regards to parking.
Swanage main car park is no cv's or mh's. Fines issued even in daytime.
Powys (mid Wales) council has the right idea, free overnight parking in their car parks.

Used to be (one night in seven) but "As well as the standard fees, it is also possible to pay for an overnight ticket. These are £5 for all vehicles apart from motorcars." (from the Machynlleth page but I'm sure it applies to the other Powys County Council car parks).
Hello Rob
The fine was a code 86 ( not parking within the box) that’s why we buy two tickets. Nothing to say at the machine that we could not park there. Where as just down the road in Appledor states if you over hang the box you will have to buy two tickets. Same council. The fine has been payed, if it was not for my better half making my ears sing I would have had my day in court.
There is a guy in Bideford, and I am sorry I do not remember his name who has made a list of all car Parks in Devon. I certainly know that Bideford is one of them that do allow the parking of MoHo...both in the day, we have used it, and overnight for £10. Overnight at all of those on 'the' list starts at about 6p.m...and finishes at 10 a.m I believe. Yes you have to show a ticket. No toilets at most of them, and no grey waste either. However £10 for an overnight is not bad at all
Contact, Torridge Council they will know all details. Bideford is on the Torridge river.
Dahlia Duo, sorry you were caught out, you did try to be honest and paid for the two spaces. In the absence of a parking attendant. Personally I think that you did the right thing, and would quite possibly have done the same thing.
Don't try Salcombe, South Devon. Cars only in the car parks we could find and a height barrier on the park and ride, thanks a lot.
In that area, go to Slapton, can park right next to the beach.
Or Dartmouth which has a motorhome friendly park and ride.
