Hi Guys

For many years I have been using a Pace Javelin decoder box 12 volt box with my Satellite dish to get Sky TV while away. Unfortunately on my first trip out this year this box has developed an intermittent fault, which causes it to lose it's signal!

Due to the age of the box, I believe it is now time to purchase a replacement. After speaking to a few suppliers, it appears that the 12 volt box is no longer made and the solution that they recommend is to fit a 240 volt box and an inverter, which I really do not want to do as it would also mean upgrading the battery.

Does anybody know any supplier that can supply either new or reconditioned 12 volt box? I have looked on ebay, but the two Pace Javelin boxes there appear to be badly treated and not warranty.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Neil & Lena, but as I said, I have already been monitoring ebay and don't fancy the standard of the offers.

I would much prefer to buy from a firm, who can provide some sort of warranty

Could you use a FTA box instead of a Sky box? We use a 12 volt FTA box, ours cost about £40 from a supplier in Germany but they are available on eBay from about £30 from an Irish company.

Not sure what you mean by "to fit a 240 volt box and an inverter". Why would you want to fit a 240 volt box? We run the Sky+HD box directly from the inverter as you simply plug the box into the inverter.
On a 110ah battery using the Sky box, the battery lasts about 6 hours as it must be remebered that the TV and other equipment are also drawing power from the battery.
If sunny weather the Skybox is ready to go again later that day once the solar panel has re-charged it.

Hi Jank01

Perhaps I should have said use instead of "fit".

Although after the posts from Rob & Tina and Sasquatch I can now see that there are other ways.

I live in an age where, if it is not broken, then why change it! Now the Pace box has "played up", it is time to change.

I don't know the difference between a FTA and a Freesat box, however I think I am now going in the right direction for a solution, thanks to the help in the above posts.

I am looking at 171137524097 or 172622747692 on Ebay, but still trying to find out if this is which is best for me.

Many thanks for ALL your help

We use a FTA box as we use it in France, if I can't get a British programme I can always tune in to a Dutch satellite for example. If we were only using it in the UK I would have gone for a Freesat box like the one we use at home, the channels available on FTA are different sometimes but the main ones are available whichever box you use.

sja1951, if you can cope without the Sky Subscription channels, then either Freesat or FTA satellite receiver is the way to go.

Check out the SAB Titan Micro, superb 12v pocket size HD FTA satellite receiver that can also be used as a PVR.

I still have my Sky Pace Javelin 2000, but sadly things have moved on, and the Javelin does not support HDMI.
