That would most likely be the booster box which is powered by the battery so you could well be right. This happened to me a few years ago when on a rally with no electric hook up and wondered what was draining the battery but can be easily forgotten about as it's usually hidden in one of the overhead lockers out of sight.

It's a box that is connected to the roof aerial that is designed to attract a stronger signal especially in areas with poor reception. Some people also use one at home for watching TV especially in rural areas where the nearest transmitter is further away than normal but there is also a secondary switch too you can use if the transmitter is too near or if located in a valley which creates a stronger gain in order to pull the signal down for a better reception.
