We're about to get our first motorhome and am trying to sort insurance.....I have my car insurance through LV and thought I'd try them first. Would you lovely people please advise if you think this is a fair quote please (as far as you can anyway). Obviously we have zero NCD as it's our first 'baby' and we have arranged to keep in on a very secure storage compound, it's for me (policyholder) and other half to drive and it's a 2006 Swift Suntor 2.0l diesel manual engine. I've been quoted total of £334 to exclude european (as we're staying in uk for first year), but includes home start and uk recovery and transfer onto anywhere in uk if can't be sorted roadside. Your thoughts would be much appreciated....thank you!

Hi,
I'd like to think that LV are giving you something for having the car with them, however,
Try Comfort Insurance www.comfort-insurance.co.uk and Safeguard (a branch of Swinton) www.safeguarduk.co.uk
These two are probably the biggest in the field of 'van Insurance and are competitive.

Not all will give you motorhome cover. My current insurer asked for proof of no claims, I had a car too but you can only have one NCD at anyone time. SAGA only needed photocopy of car insurance . They have just sent me renewal for this year and it’s £100 more than last!!! I’ll be shopping about now or asking them for a bette4 quote.
I think what you have been quoted is a wee bit steep. Do you need breakdown and relay cover? Maybe you already have AA OR RAC?
Though looks like your other half has insurance for Car and you the motorhome?
Happy travels, and get more quotes

I am surprised that you have no NCD, I have used Saga for the last few years for my MH and when I first went to them they gave me the full bonus that I had accrued on my car insurance, meaning I had two NCD`s. A couple of years ago I changed companies for one year and got the same deal.

I do have NCD , like you it was accrued on car insurance . This was credited by SAGA but they were very clear when they told me a person can only hold one NCD. They do recognise this and give the NCD FOR motorhome ....
Not sure I’ve explained it right?

Thank you for your replies.....yes I have NCD just on my car insurance but was told as neither of us had driven a motorhome before we hadn't accrued NCD on this!! Not sure I understand the NCD 'rule', surely if i've driven for 30 plus years and not had a claim for 20 plus I've accrued NCD on anything I drive?? Anyhoo, I'll try and get some more quotes tonight but it's not a quick phone call is it, even tried go compare site but sooooo many questions!! phew!

I used to use my campervan as my main means of transport and when I also bought a car, I had little difficulty finding a company that would give me full (or at least a good introductory) NCD on it as well. Shop around, some companies are not as greedy as others.
Currently I have a campervan insured for me with my wife as a named driver. She has a car with me as a named driver. In this way we can drive either vehicle and have max NCD on both.

Yes, you do need to be shopping around - - I would think that you will easily find a company that will give you the same NCD that you currently have on your car, and allow you to run both.
I get several quotes every year at renewal time and it has never been a problem.

Try Caravan Guard as they also insure motorhomes too and are usually very competitive.

Ditto caravan guard, just switched to them from Comfort who were very good for 6 years until I stored my Motorhome in an area with a London postcode and they more than doubled the premium
Caravanguard were nearly 40% cheaper
