My first car, in 1971 was a mini and I can remember asking the guy on a garage forecourt to put £1 of petrol in it (they were the days) and being told that the tank was only 5 gallons so it wouldn`t hold £1 worth of fuel.
Yesterday I noticed our MH was showing between 1/4 tank and empty so filled it up in our local sainsburys and achieved another first for me - - over £100.
I bet a quids worth of petrol in 1971 was a bigger percentage of your wages than the equivalent value of that same amount of petrol today would be of your wages at today’s rates.
im on about £769. a month before tax and NI and pension and some other odds and ends and put two tanks a month in my car at £85 a tank so it does eat a fair way into your pay.
