If you have extending steps attached to your vehicle PLEASE check that you have stowed them safely before driving off.
Twice in the last week I have seen large motorhomes on the road with the steps still extended. I paused to let one out of a campsite, (didn't spot the steps side on) and then ended up following him, flashing my lights and beeping my horn, for a couple of miles with my heart in my mouth as oncoming traffic took evading action on narrow sections of the road. From other driver's point of view there isn't a lot to see unless you're close, but boy could they do a lot of damage at 30+mph. I did eventually get the guy's attention at a junction with the help of another motorist.
Good point. An alarm goes off if we have our steps down when the ignition is turned on. However, having once driven off whilst still attached to the hookup, and another time driven off over the grey water canister, one of us now walks around the MH to check that everything is stowed away.
My van sounds an alarm and pulls the step in as soon as the engine is started
It does frustrate the wife when she wants to go in the side door when the engine is running and the step wont stay out
