We take a driveaway awning, but often don't bother to connect it to the van. They flap at night and can make the van rock if the wind is strong enough, and I prefer to have a view out of the van window rather than the back of the awning, when it is closed up. We tend to site our awning to one side, depending on the sun/ shade required, but then we do mostly camp in France!
Lots of campers connect their awnings with tie down straps thrown across the roof and pegged down, and you can now get magnetic strips to connect awnings too. Hope this helps.

Was also going to suggest as above, you can use throw over straps to secure it if you can’t get one to fit awning rail.

Awnings come in differing heights. The height you require and how to arrive at that, is by measuring from ground to just above your vans sliding door. The choice of attachment is less easy, in that Fiat, Citroen and Peugeot do not fit a roof drain channel. They do however have 5 roof rail fixing points. (On our Citroen Dispatch they do) You can fit a temporary rail to these fixing points, they do not have to be a branded product, just any old rail will do) You may then attach the tunnel of the drive away to this rail. I would suggest some lengths of pipe insulation around the rail of your choice, to protect the awning material.
Awnings are usually measured as Standard and Tall. This measurement is for the 'tunnel' only. It has nothing to do with the tent side of the awning. The possibility to completely windproof the flappy, baggy sides of any tunnels are virtually nil. ( Kampa have made the best attempt that we have seen) However if that were possible you would most likely need an awning skirt to stop the wind from beneath the 'van.
We have 2 awnings, both Vango air, one small and one huge. We rarely use the huge one. We are however looking at the Vango Hex Hub, which is freestanding, with no need to attach to the van. Take a look at it, it may suit you also. It could solve many problems in one. Transport for days out, storage, and just relaxing in.
Good luck with your awning search.
