Hi, All,
Does anyone here own a Vito camper? Could you give me an opinion of them please. I have a few ideas of how I'd like to convert one. Both my husband and myself are in our eighties so unlikely we'll have it for long but want to downsize from our present Motorhome,hopefully to enjoy a few nice days out and about, no more touring though.

Sorry I do not have experience of a converted Vito. However, I did google 'Merc Vito conversion' and came up with quite a few companies that do use this van.
The websites for these converters have pictures etc. One even has a 'flat pack' DIY job.
I would have a look at the reviews on the converters websites and see how the customers rate them. I know that more than likely there will be nothing negative in the reviews but it may be of help to you, and you will at least see quite a few different options for the interior.

Hi, I’ve seen some lovely Vito conversions and it’s a really beautiful vehicle. However we were put off by a couple of things.

It’s mpg is much lower than anything else on our list (Vauxhall vivaro/Renault trafic, vw transporter, ford transit custom, Nissan nv200)

Size was quite favouble, being a little longer but a little narrower than the Trafic we decided on.

The main thing tho being a merc parts and servicing costs have put us off as being much higher than the others, almost esp as the trafic, vivaro and Nissan Primastar/nv300 are mostly interchangeable.

But, we are late 30’s with small child and dog and our needs will be different to yours. Just our findings and conclusions. Hope it’s of a little help.

Thanks Helen....yes heard they are a bit expensive to run. How I envy you being 30 ish and with a young child.enjoy life while you can. We had 4 children and a small vw. Great fun.

One of the worst things with the Merc. VITO is that they rust, just like their larger brother the Sprinter does.

Having said that I have undertaken a conversion of one of these for my nephew as a motorbike race van and he loves it!

But if I were contemplating doing a conversion, I would plump for a larger van such as a MWB Citroen Relay/Peugeot Boxer/Fiat Ducato. All built in the same factory in Italy they have a fully galvanised body (so zero rust), they drive superbly and their bodies are wide enough so that you can have an across the width bed and having such a square body, they are the easiest vans by far to convert.

Personally speaking, my self built van is inside a LWB Renault Master, but that size of van might be a little too big for you to consider.

Yes the Renault Master will be too big, I understood that the Newer Vitos, (from 2008) are now galvanised, .the MWB Citroen seems a good alternative.
back to the drawing board then.

Thank you for offering help. Haven't bought van yet! Our present Motorhome has just failed MOT. (Major faults) first failure since we bought it about 4 years ago😢 just hoping it won't cost too much to repair.
