Today’s hot topic, so you are away on EHU, is it best to heat your van with a small fan heater considering no on going maintenance costs or run your main heating boiler ?.
I think a small fan heater any thoughts
For years whenever on EHU I used an oil filled radiator, it worked superbly and was silent whereas either the vans heater or a stand alone fan heater made noise.
------------- There is a great World to be found out there, but by the very day, to find where it is becomes more of a challenge!
We used an oil filled heater when we had no blown air heating. It got the van tepid when it was frost & snow outside. Fan heater is way too noisy to leave on all night in cold weather.
We now have blown air heating & can set the temperature to more than tepid if we wish. I assume OP can too. And we don't have a radiator taking up space in a tight area.
OP has paid for the fitted heater, why not use it?
David I think the ongoing cast will be use of the heating system that will need servicing and repairs which will cost, if a have a small fan heater not costa for service.
We have had our van for 5 years now and do a lot of winter touring, We only ever use the blown air heating which has required no maintenance since we bought the van apart from hoovering out the dust twice a year. Very little cost in that!
We have had 3 vans from new, in our M.Homing life. The only reason we have used a fan in our vans is to cool them down. The heating in each could be run on gas or electricity. The controls have been easy to operate and we have found them to be more efficient / effective on gas. Our gas, not site gas. We have paid for the electricity in our site fee, and have never had any problems that cost us anything to put right. We use our van certainly up to / into December and have never been cold in the evening or during the night. If, should we need, we will notch it up a degree or two. Andy, save the fan heater for home, you honestly will be 'better off' if you are on site electric.

As above. We were out early this season when an elderly couple arrived late at night on site and chose the pitch next to us just as we were getting ready for bed. After spending over half an hour getting their van sited, they promptly switched their on board blown air heating on full. The roar made sleeping difficult for others and continued until they wakened the following morning when they turned it down.
Oil filled radiators do not make any noise which spoils other peoples peace and quiet and are efficient. We sometimes use our blown air system on site but never during the night.
Hi Belper Bloke,
Like David I would use the onboard equipment.
You are not avoiding servicing by not using it, in fact it will probably require as much cleaning out because of dust deposits building up.

Greg
Use oil filled rad in our T5 if on hook up, carry fan heater for the odd quick blast in the depth of winter but only needs a couple of minutes at a time. If not on hook up, fire up the stove for a while....
Before we bought ours we had a hire van for a week with a diesel heater and I could not believe the racket you could hear outside the van when it was running. Being a tenter, I know how annoyed I would be so out or courtesy to them stopped using it!
