I live in Bath.
The local council has pretty much decided to establish a Clean Air Zone (CAZ)covering the whole city centre.
Any diesel vehicle older than 2015 entering the city will face a daily fine of £9.00 or £100 depending on the size of the vehicle.
I live in the zone so I will be forced to sell my van.
We have two years to sell up and buy newer vans at huge personal cost. I am on a fixed income and cant afford it.
The council is "consulting" but taking no record of complaints/objections.
There is an online form for comment.

I have had a quick look at the proposals and you may only have to pay £9 everytime you move through the zone. Surely that can't be as expensive as changing the motorhome? What about the possibility of storing the van outside the zone.

I was trying to find information on these charges regarding residents, I have also tried looking at London's different charges hoping there maybe an exemption or lower cost for residents.

All I can see is that parked vehicles do not attract a daily charge, and the charge only seems to apply to vehicles driving in and out.

I suspect I am not the only person who now finds London's LEZ, ULEZ and T charge more and more complicated, do hope Baths and anywhere else is simpler and easier to understand

Bath's proposals are quite small scale compared the the London LEZ zone which virtually covers the whole area inside the M25 (not to be confused with the Congestion CHarge) I think our motorhome which is only six years old would fall foul of the Bath proposals but is (currently) fine in the London LEZ. A couple of years ago we stayed at the Bath Marina site and had to drive through Bath so I wonder how they will be affected?

I have used the Marina site as well David but have always found it difficult to get a space as it seems so popular, I was under the impression that bath marina was due to be closed as the local council wanted to develop it, but maybe thats fallen through.

Of course the cynical side of me would say what a wonderful way for a council to shut it down, simply by removing their customers

I didn't realise it was under threat. Is it not owned by the Canal and River Trust? It must be a problem in that part of the world with Bristol trying to close Baltic Wharf and being obstructive in not helping the Club relocate.

Sorry David I must blame old age I'm getting Baltic wharf muddle with bath

Having said that I know both Councils and residents are getting fed up with the number of people who are now full timing in motor homes in the area.

I had quite a long argument with police in Bristol trying to move me on and threatening to tow my small 6 metre MH away even though I was actually in my sons dedicated parking slot, I was only visiting for the day on our way back from wales.

I think that Cities all over this country and abroad are using pollution as a means of raising revenue. We have decided that we will not visit any city which has such charges on a point of principle. The trouble is that most governments target the motorist to tax tax and tax again. Store your van outside of Bath to avoid the charges and your storage will probably be cheaper as well.

Bristol Council are quite tolerant when it comes to people sleeping in Motorhomes/caravans etc,they recognise there is a lack of affordable housing and will only remove a vehicle if it is causing a physical obstruction,if there have been numerous complaints or they don't have provision for disposal of human waste.
