Ah well, we are all good at something..... I'll bet you are an ace cook or something...

I'm making a rather silly assumption that the vehicle electricians you have been to have done the obvious things such as checking fuses and replacing the relay - both of which cost mere pennies. Maybe they haven't? The suggestion it is the ECU seems daft to me as the step is an additional item, not part of the original vehicle. Copy this link into your browser and you will get some really useful information on this problem....

https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/step-not-retracting.92873/

You will see others have had a similar problem and it's been resolved simply by replacing a fuse that they weren't aware was related to the step.

Hope you get it sorted.

Thank you for replying.......yes, the step is an additional problem....but the main one is the Engine Warning Light comes on when the engine is started.....Husband says it will fail its MOT next time if it isn't sorted......it has been to Diagnostic whizz kids who have cleared the faults on their computers only for them to return.....hence the suggestion of a new ECU.?
I am really good at knit one purl one and make a mean "tater ash"......bet you don't know what that is...unless you are from Salford!

Suggest Hubby buys a OBD11 tool and re-sets the light before taking for MOT. That's what I and many motorists do rather than pay £50 plus to garages that say it's an intermittent fault they can't find a cause for. I bought mine on Fleabay for around £30...

Hello,
Remember me with the problems of the Engine warning light etc etc? Just thought I'd let you know......You were right! It was that strap thingy you suggested and has taken all this time and much money to find it.In the meantime it has has 2 new batteries and plenty of stress.
Thank you for your help.

To all kind helpers...it was the earthing strap as previously suggested and has taken all this time.....and a ton of money to find it out.Thank you so much for taking the time to help a pair of now penniless novices.
