We have a camper van (Auto cruise Rythm Peugeot Boxer) with a Truma boiler. When we disengage the pump e turn the tap off we can hear it start for about a second. It’s then quiet but every 30 seconds or so it starts a noise again (about 1 second) . Anyone any ideas ? The only way to stop it is to switch the pump off .

Is it like a clicking sound you can hear for a few seconds?
If it is then that's probably the water pump re-pressurising the water system which is normal.

I'm assuming the noise is the pump starting for a brief period. If it happens just once, that's OK, but every 30 secs is not normal. It could be a leak somewhere in the system, or in the pump.

Many systems have a pressure switch to turn the pump on and off and most also have a surge damper like this.

Its basically a cylinder with a spring loaded plunger in it. When teh pump runs it forces the plunger against the spring and fills the cylinder with water. When it runs out of travel the pressure rises and the pressure switch switches the pump off.

If there is a slight leak the cylinder will provide the water and the pump will not run until the cylinder is empty at which point the pressure drops and the pump runs again.

Could be the non return valve knackered in the breather tube/ hot water outlet fitting, looking at the boiler you should see a clear plastic pipe connected to the (normally red plastic hot water outlet) that exits the van through the floor, look for water leaking out of the tube , the non return valve is built into the fitting so if there is water entering the tube it will need replacing. the other one to check is the drain valve in the cold water pipe going to the boiler (normally blue with a yellow lever) this is also a pressure relief valve so a puddle under the van where the outlet passes through the floor could mean that it is not working as it should.
