Can anyone recommend a method for blackout side windows? We have a Ford transit minibus conversion and we want to black out the sliding door window and the opposite side window.

You can get black film to put on - our library windows have it. No one can see in from the outside, the sun can't get in either. But at night, with your lights on inside, everyone can see in as if there was no film there.
I put opaque film on a bathroom window - you spray water (with one drop of washing up liquid in it) onto the glass, present the film that youve cut to size and move it into place. Then use a credit card from the centre outwards, to gently slide or squeeze the water out.

Our van comes as standard with tinted side and rear windows but I understand the Windscreen Replacement companies can carry out this process

Any company that does window tinting should be able to do it, I had one of mine blacked out completely when I was getting the windows on my old Hiace tinted.
To be honest I wouldn't recommend attempting it yourself as there's a definite technique to it. Though there are
Plenty for sale on ebay if your up for giving it a go

If your not frightened to have a go you can do it yourself quite cheaply. I did my own camper, 2 side windows in middle with openers, 2 rear doors & 1 rear side window non opener. It wasn't easy & it doesn't look proffesionally done but I have no air bubbles and for around £10 I'm happy with the result. Bought the tint film from Ebay

Thanks for all your suggestions. However I was think more of blinds than blackout film. In the event, I made my own. I bought a roll of ThermAll from B&Q, some 4oz polyester wadding and some black felt material from Hobbycraft. I also bought 10 small magnets. I cut the material to the size of the window (making the felt slightly bigger) and sandwiched the polyester wadding between the felt and the ThermAll. I folded the edges of the felt over the other materials to make a border and stitched all together. I sewed a magnet into each corner and one in the middle at the top of the blind. Attach to the insides of the windows and I have a removable thermal blind. I have made two and am going to make for all the van windows, but I'll use suction cups next time as the magnets are quite expensive.

Silver screen material has all the layers in already including insulation, but you seem to have it all sorted now. Hope you've made your panels big enough to stop light coming in around the edges in summer.

The purpose of the blinds are for insulation and anti condensation as much as privacy. They slightly overlap the glass so should block out that early morning sun!
