Hi everyone not sure if anyone has got the same issue with these camper vans , with modern technology you would think that they would have invented a soft close side sliding door on these vans .
I know they are very popular but have had a couple of instances where have asked when parked on the pitch next to me to either close the side door quietly or don't open and 'bounce it off its hinges 'every time as they keep waking up my grandchildren.
One time a couple of gents arrived on site at 10 pm and in the next hour while setting up open and closed the sliding doors at least twenty times as I say not quietly in the end I went out and asked if he could be a bit more consideration as it was disturbing my grandchildren and all I got was a curt reply .
It's getting to the point know that I dread one of these vans pitching up next to me ,most are smashing people and I understand the love they have for these vans but come on VW please invent soft close sliding doors
It's not just VW. Our sliding doors were the same. Now they're packed full of insulation plus noise deadening & consequently are a lot quiter to close. Lubing the slider mech also helps.
For the most part they can be slid quietly before the final push to close.
A lot of van's now have option of self-closing side doors. Not seen first hand so I don't know if they are quiter.
‘Soft close doors’ a good idea.
And then a cure for an even bigger annoyance. BBQ users who think it is OK to let their foul stench drift across the whole site.
Just saying....
We have been told that there are such things as soft/less noisy sliding doors on the market now. It has something to do with the latch and connector. I can't for the life of me remember which brand of vehicle initiated this. All we have to do is re train the operator.
I hate the catches on the cabinets within our van. They are also very noisy and have the added delight of trying to snap a finger within them.
I am sure that women should have more input into the design of motorhomes. Lets face it, it is they who spend the most time in the vans. I know that I would never put the outside light on the van where as soon as the habitation door is opened it covers the light. The bins in the doors that prevent the door closure if the fly screen is across the opening. The vans with full ovens with a dropdown pan drawer...why are they glass?
Sorry I digress, those doors are seriously a nuisance not just to others but the more observant of owner.
I have a 26 year old Renault Trafic. The side door is understandably temperamental. There is no way that it could be closed quietly. If I am in other company, I refuse to use that door at all. I have perfectly good rear doors which can be opened and closed quietly. The excessive noise is just bad manners and bad habits. A sad reflection of much of today's society.
The door on our VW 'van will not close fully without being slammed. We try not to close it fully unless necessary, however if it's not properly closed in rain, it rains in....We try to limit the opening and closing of any of the doors early or late on.
Hi morning I would like to say thanks as Obviously you are a more considerate person and know the problem that excessive problem it causes
Another instance on site in Cotswolds a young single lady again arrived at 10pm and pitched behind my caravan and for next 30 minutes, bang, bang went the sliding door ,as my grandchildren started to stir I had to go and ask her to close the door a bit quieter she offered to move pitches i said no but to be a bit more consideration which she did
What are these people doing to be opening & closing the doors so much? It doesn't take me 30 minutes to set up camp with the big tent. In the van at 10pm we'd be set up in 2 without going outside unless popping to toilet.
I think it's Hymer that have the soft close doors or is it Globster.. and while we're all having a moan about noise I think dogs should be banned... that's thrown the cat among the pigeons.

I agree. The cats are damned noisy when they start their choir practise at night. ;-)
Ah. The VW campervan slam. Annoying fellow campers since the 1960s. Just file this one with tent campers snoring loudly, drunken campers being noisy & so on. Just bad luck if you pitch up next to one.
My son in law has a VW (daddy)van two rows of seats so can accommodate 4 adults and 2 child seats. The back bit is a van space. He paid extra for soft close sliding side doors( they are not standard) for extra safety with the children. Press a catch and they close noiselessly.
This thread reminds me of our last outing to the Bridlington CMC site. We had a VW camper with the banging doors on one side of us, and the short cut through gate to the toilet block on the other, complete with a 'Suffolk' type latch and a strong spring to stop children running out onto the road by it being left open.
Needless to say, the gate was banging regularly throughout the night, often followed by the slamming of the side doors on the VW.
For anyone planning a visit to this site, l recommend that you avoid pitch 4 at all costs if you want a decent peaceful nights sleep. Not everyone has the option to use their onboard facilities during the night, so times by about 18 pitches using this shortcut,it must be the most noisy pitch on the site.

Hi morning Julia thx for the info re Bridlington I had booked a stay up there in August but will remember to stay away from that pitch.
Re the Door Bangers I am glad so many people have joined this debate from both sides and most of the VW owners appear to understand this problem and it seems that some are oblivious to this until you point it out and are then very accomodating .
