We are thinking of getting a motorhome cover for the winter months. What are people's views on this. I have heard they make the motorhome sweat?? Sorry don't know what this means

This is purely my own opinion, but I think that laying up a motorhome for the winter is a waste of resource. There are lots of related matters such as maintaining the batteries, clutch / brakes seizing due to lack of use, flat spots on tyres, damp due to lack of ventilation etc..

I believe that vans should be used all year, if not for holidays, then for days out, shopping trips etc.. If however you don't want to use the van over the winter, personally, I wouldn't cover it unless you could insure good ventilation to prevent damp, mould etc..

Two drifters off to see the world.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.

I’ve had caravans and motorhomes for forty years now and have never ever used a cover and never had any problems.
I do know of people who have used them and had problems with abrasion to the paintwork and gel coat through covers flapping or some movement due to windy conditions. Also they tend to draw damp up through the gas drop vents on warmer winter days resulting in mould etc. In the habitation.
My advice would be. Make sure it is well drained down. Open drain point and blow down the taps with a short piece of hosepipe. Give it a good wash and wax. If you haven’t got a solar panel fitted buy a small portable one they are about £20 just big enough to maintained the leisure battery. And have a quick look inside every 3 to 4 weeks.

I second that as above ideas, but many feel they would like to sorn the van over winter, and with the punitive charges on older deisil engines it makes sense, if kept off the road say on a drive and sorned a quick turn around then back off road would take care of tyre flat spots, also given the engine a run up to temperature would do no real harm.
When all is said and done keeping it road legal is the best way of looking after an expensive piece of gear, by using it.
