Hi all. Im interested in buying on of these as I like the size and layout.
Looking for a mid 90s one.
Has anyone had one and can you tell me about your experiences and of any known problwms to look out for. Would appreciate any advice.

We had an Autosleeper Clubman GL that was the same age. Loved it. We got it at 10 years old & enjoyed it very much for nearly 15 years. On a VW cab, not Ford.
The problems we had were just ones of an older vehicle but the Clubman body (monocoque) never leaked. Rust in various parts of the cab was eventually the biggest problem, the habitation side was still largely in good order.

Which model are you looking at? A campervan or a motorhome?

Before buying our current van, we looked at some Autosleeper Duettos as Autosleeper used to have a very good reputation for build quality. I was disappointed to note water ingress in two of them - where the GRP roof joined the body. This was most noticeable inside the high level cupboards.

As Fiona noted, the Clubman had a monocoque body and was generally leak proof.

I have owned a number of Autosleeper vans over the years.
The last one was a 2 berth Autosleeper Executive.
What can I say the Executive is a fantastic brilliant van.
The one I had was Peugeot Boxer based. Personally I think they don’t suffer from rust of the cab areas as much as the Transit based vehicles do.
The only areas on the Boxer cab to watch for are the step wells both passenger and driver sides and the front cross rail at the front of the engine but that’s not a major as it is a replaceable part.
Loved that van only swapped as new van has larger shower/toilet.
Damn this ageing thing 🙁

Many thanks. Yes the ones ive been looking at online are transit camper van type with the high roof.
A friend has told me that Fords are notoriously rusty though.

So from your posts Bob I presume you are looking for a Autosleeper Symbol with the sliding side door.
I have had three of those over the years. They are a good van. After a while having to fold up the passenger side bed to use the side door becomes a bit of a faff but manageable. They have very few faults are easy to park and the habitation lay out is compact but good.
My wife is more of a fan of this type of van than myself as I preferred the Executive. It’s not that much larger and the bed thing solved.
You have been well informed about the rusting of the Ford based vans specially of vans the age you are looking for. Hence the reason I would recommend the Peugeot based van with the 2.8 Diesel engine.
Parts for the Peugeot are fairly easy to obtain apart from replacement headlights for some reason.
Look at all types before you finally decide and good hunting. 👍
