Wanted to buy a satnav for my motorhome so I don't get led down impossibly narrow streets or lanes. There's an endless choice out there and so many differing prices. Any recommendations would be very useful please.
and thats the problem, even if you enter height, weight, length etc, they dont always take you along suitable roads. ive just bought a second hand garmin with a built in dash cam with free lifetime updates. i think to rely on a satnav 100% is asking too much, so go with one that has features that suit aswell, like built in dashcam, bluetooth phone etc but the most important is to get one with free updates throught the areas you will be using it AND always read the road signs, dont just blindly follow sat nav instructions
My new motorhome has one as part of the equipment. Its not perfect but I am reluctant to spend £300 on a specialist one. If I did it would probably be a TomTom Camper.
I have a caravan and use a Pro Drive you enter the height, width, length and number of axles. It has taken me all over France and Spain. It comes complete with over 30,000 Archies campsites. It has only taken me wrong once, but that was my fault as I entered the wrong information. This is my second one the last one lasted 5 years, I bought it off EBay fir £79.99 two years ago.

We have a Garmin Camper 660 which has taken us all over UK and Europe for several years now without incident.
Oh there was this once when the route we needed was closed that it took us down to a low bridge which we had to turn round at but other than that is has been brilliant.
Buying a sat nav with a built in dash cam is what I considered buying until I checked up on European use. There are restrictions on the use of dash cams in most European countries. If you're caught using one in Austria for instance it could cost you 10000 euros for first offence and 25000 euros for the second. Portugul has an outright ban on dash cams so leave it at home. If you are thinking of touring in Europe Belgium France Germany all have their own different views on the use of dash cams. So perhaps a sat nav with a built in dash cam is okay in the UK but not so good overseas

thanks for the info. are they actually illegal to use or is it illegal to use the footage of publicly share it? illegal to use would seem to open up lots of questions, such as cctv on your home or to protect your vehicle. if you could point me in the direction of where the info came from, i would be very grateful, as i obv wouldnt want to incur any fines, thanks
