Hi all, I have a Ford Rimor Sailer 645, with 4 wheels on the rear axle allowing 2600kg weight. The front axle (2 wheels) allows 1750kg weight. The vehicle is plated 3500kg which leaves about 500kg payload assuming awning, bike rack, ladder are already included. This I doubt.
I do intend to visit a weighbridge to confirm this.
I am considering updating the plating to allow more payload but I don’t want to have modifications added.
Can anyone tell me if my axles combined 4350kg will accommodate this and if so, how do I go about it?
Hi..
Usually, the first piece of advice that is given, is to contact the likes of SVtech http://www.svtech.co.uk/our-services/uprating/
..a phone call/email to them would/should let you know what's involved ie, springs, tyres?
(there will be other companies that offer such a service..)
But even if it is just a "paper exercise", I wouldn't dismiss the fitting of rear spring air assistors..because they will greatly improve the stability of the van anyway(and are usually straight forward enough to fit).
Edit; it may be worth trying to contact Rimor "HQ" because it may be the case that your van is already at a state where it is "technically" capable of being plated over 3500kg but just needs the certificate from the manufacturer to prove it?
This was the case with a previous van of ours(a Chausson). The paperwork showed it as 3500kg but *Chausson(in France) provided paperwork, at no charge, to show it was actual capable of being 3850kg. I just sent a copy of this paperwork was to DVLA to update the V5.
Worth an email/phone call?
(* I had been messed around by "main dealers" etc and DVLA for weeks on end! but once I'd emailed Chausson in France, I had the necessary paperwork within the week!)
Hi, me again..
Just to clarify, I was messed about (given duff/useless info) by both the selling dealer, and by the dealer who initially imported our van/brand ("..just go to a weighbridge mate, and then send the ticket off to DVLA.." ).. and both were "respected", long established dealerships..
When/if you do manage to contact Rimor "HQ"(or whoever owns them nowadays?), include as many details of your van as you can.
Chassis VIN,the conversion build number etc..
(Prior to buying our previous van, the Chausson/Renault, we looked at several twin wheel transit based vans(Chausson and Dethleff)and many of them were already at 3850kg...but these would've been maybe 2007-9 models?)
Good luck.
