I have a 14 reg VW campervan that’s been insured on a self drive hire policy this last year. Obviously no bookings this year and as I'm relocating (virus permitting) I won’t be pursuing hires this year even if the virus bugs off...so can anyone recommend a good, reasonable private use insurer?

Well comfort, safeguard and justkampers came out over £1100 and Adrian flux said as Justkampers were their sister company they couldn’t beat it. Safeguard also tried their sister company, scenic, which was over £1200, as much as my self drive hire insurance was last year!
I then rang justkampers as I did that one online yest and they got my premium down to £450 inc breakdown and personal accident and their personal effects cover was quite substantial too.
I’ve gone with them and hope they’ll do me well.
Aviva wouldn’t quote at all as it’s kept on the road.
Also, I have an unresolved alleged incident from last year, my van wasn’t involved but it’s increasing my premium as it can’t be scrubbed from my record until the third party confirms they got the details incorrect! As I nearly got taken to court last year due to an insurer not paying up two years ago unbeknownst to me I’m not surprisingly wary of all insurers now. Hope we make good with this one.
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
If you go with Saga make sure security requirements are clear. They said they could not tell me! It took a long time to get a proper answer by which time I went elsewhere. I made a formal complaint which was upheld so it may now be sorted.
Another vote for saga. My fairford was hit will stationary in August last year...they were superb! The claim howver was handled by claimfast who were even better!
Comfort are keen to point out they don't insure anyone who lives in a van - they know they are on these sites but they can't get off them - for leisure use they are fine.
I use Adrian Flux as I am a full timer and they threw in breakdown and replacement motorhome free with all the other stuff I got.
Don't have any experience about van insurance but a big up for Saga regarding car insurance. And If they offer the option of fixing your price for 3 years TAKE IT ! because insurance will be one of the things going up that's for sure when we do pull through these times
