Hi, hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Does anybody know where I can get a gas hose with a pigtail connector?
My van has a bottle mounted regulator (pre 2003?). Plenty of ‘bulk head’ hoses for sale, but not much info for the type that I have.
If you carefully saw through & break apart the thin metal ferrule on end of rubber gas hose you can then remove old flexible pipe to reveal a nipple. You can then get a length of new lpg hose & secure with jubilee clip. If regulator is years old I would replace that as well.
If you want to do an even better job then saw through metal pipe just behind fitting & fit a new olive & nipple. If you would rather not diy then any caravan repair man can do the job in minutes.
Thanks, I have sent Gaslow an email and hope that they can help.
I did receive the following response from another company:
Thank you for your email regarding the Pig Tail Hose you are looking for. After some in depth discussion today with colleagues we think it would be best for you move away from Bupane to Propane if connected to the Bulk Head. We would suggest getting a qualified Gas Engineer to upgrade as all of our hoses are fitted with safety features.
I don’t quite understand their recommendation, my current setup has worked fine for the last 19 years!
They are not really talking on the wavelength you need. Unless you want to go to refillable bottle Gaslow they are not really the people to talk to. To simplify take the advice offered in my first post. You can get the lpg hose & jubilee clips & also new regulator from your nearest caravan shop. They will probably do a click & collect.
What you need is the length of lpg hose, 2 jubilee clips & I would suggest you get a new regulator as yours looks quite old. I presume that is a Calor butane bottle? So that is the regulator you need. Do that & you are set up for another few years. Usually good to replace gas hose every 5 years though. When fitting hose onto nipple soften hose end in cup of boiling water then it will slide on easy.
Butane gas in the blue bottle is ok for summer use but propane in red bottles is better for year round use in freezing weather but if you only do summer then just stick with butane.
If you do want to change to propane then a Calor 7.5kg butane bottle can be exchanged for same size 6kg Calor propane bottle but you need a different regulator. So you need to decide that now before you go to shop.
I guess your motorhome originally came from Europe yes? The screw on gas hose you have is available in any continental country but in the UK we have generally used push on hose to nipple secured with jubilee clip on the older type bottle top regulator setup.. If you are using a UK Calor bottle & regulator then I guess the regulator end of you existing hose was cut off & pipe pushed on & secured with jubilee clip.
Thanks a lot once again for the advice. I think Billy that you must have a degree or black belt in gas bottle knowledge, because you are correct on all counts.
I will follow your advice and get cutting.
