On cleaning out our Eldiss Motorhome today after months of lockdown, I noticed that the fold up sink interior in the bathroom was yellow and crazed. We have never used this sink and I spent ages trying, without success, to get it back to it's original condition.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can do this?
Kind regards

Just an idea, but maybe age? ( You don’t say how old your MH is.) Plastic goes yellow & crazes. If you’ve never used it, then you maybe hadn’t noticed it happening in previous years? I’ll be interested to hear if anyone has an idea to solve the crazing.

Hi, Thank you for your reply. The motorhome is only 9 years old and the sink was perfect when I last cleaned it in April, which is why I am baffled as to its condition now. Hopefully, someone can help as it is a bit of an eyesore. Kind regards to all.

The same thing (yellowing) happens to domestic plastic baths, there are some suggestions on the net on how to get rid of the yellowing not sure about the crazing.

Yellowing is commonplace/normal in plastics as they undergo chemical changes through age and light exposure. It can be throughout the thickness of the plastic, so not just a surface layer that can be easily cleaned off, although does tend to be graduated from the surface into the material depth!

The crazing can be stress relief from the manufacturing process, or chemical surface attack or combination. What did you use to clean bowl with and did you remove all trace after cleaning? A sudden onset sounds more like chemical attack. Caravans are full of materials that warn against using common household cleaners, usually no harm is done, but occasionally incompatibilities do occur!

It sounds too far gone for restoration, maybe a s/h replacement may be your best option.

Thank you for your advice. We have discovered a very unpleasant story behind this sudden deterioration from our immaculate sink to the one in place. I wont bore you with the details except to warn you to take photos of EVERYTHING when you take your prized possession into ANY kind of workshop even the prestige ones as we did. We have spent all day trying to find a replacement, without success, after trying 7 or 8 different companies and are lost and bewildered at this stage!
Kind regards

I’m guessing you suspect your good sink got swapped. Not good. (That happened to an engine battery in our car, but much less hassle to replace.)
Try a MH breakers? I can’t remember the name of one we used as it was too long ago. Hope you find a replacement.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, most definitely it was swapped as you can see where this one was cut up to release from existing fitting and additional screw holes where this old one was fitted originally. Very upsetting as we have lavished much love, care and money on maintaining our MH. We are having serious problems trying to locate a new one less than £500 and have resorted to begging Elddis themselves for help and waiting for a response.
