I would like some advice on getting our motorhome up and running again. We have Autocruise Vista 2000.We had van serviced and mot week before lockdown and it has been stood on drive since due to my husband rupturing his achilles tendon and being unable to drive. We are unsure as to whether he will be able to drive it again so we may need to sell and buy an automatic van but we are needing to get it moving safely again. Any advice please.
Maybe wrong but all we did was check the oil , start the engine & drive off, allowing more time for braking in case there was rust on the discs. Go to Sainsbury’s to adjust tyre pressure. Then go for a good long run.
Not sure what else you can do?
Make sure the battery is fully charged. One problem I had when my last van was sitting for a while, was that the clutch stuck and needed a but of persuading to free. If the brake disks are rusty, they will be more effective and rather than taking more time to stop, will be a bit more harsh. The clutch may be a bit juddery, but come OK.
Otherwise, check the tyre pressures, fluid levels etc and go for a good drive. Hope hubby's tendon heals OK and you're able to drive again.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
You should only let the engine tickover fo app 30 seconds to ensure that the oil is circulating, any longer does more harm than good a diesel engine needs to be driven to warm it up otherwise unburnt fuel can wash the cylinder walls and possibly pollute the sump oil.
