We usually average over 100 nights away in our van each year.
This includes one long trip abroad of about 6 weeks and possibly a second of 14 days or so.
The rest is in the UK made up of short trips of between 1 and 5 days, mainly between April and October but we do camp in the winter as well.
As we are retired we are free to go away as often as we wish. Some of our trips are planned but if the forecast is good or we wake up and feel like it we just get in the van and go as we keep everything we need in the van, apart from fresh food, year round. The van is our only transport so we don't lay it up for the winter etc as it's in constant use so it's always ready to drive.
This year has been different as I had to shield for over 3 months from March to July so missed our trip to Europe but we've still managed 30 nights away at small rural sites in the UK.
Interesting thread, I'm looking at getting a van for a basic conversion, this will be in addition to my car. We are teachers, we camp in the summer for 3/4 weeks in France and or Spain, but are always saying it would be good to have the option of just getting away last minute for a night or two with out all the tent faff. We've got good quality gear for comfy camping but it maxes out my car, the van would serve as space for all our gear / toys for extended trips, but also allow short trips.
We use our van mainly in France but of course not this year although we were actually in France when the first lockdown happened so came home early.
We had a month away in September in the UK touring around in the north of England but UK is definitely not motorhome friendly unlike France! We also get away for short trips either mid week or weekends throughout the year.
As often as we can, usually a couple of months in France, Plus trips at home when we want.
As retired types we avoid bank Holidays and peak times!
Enough of that when we worked.
We have managed a total of about 35 days this year in UK.
------------- DS-There's more to life than football!!!
Managed 8 weeks in the uk this year have been severely curtailed due to virus would have had 7 weeks France and Spain if not for virus. and be out again as soon as legal.
We are both retired so go away for long w/e in-between our 4 to 8 week trips home and abroad we seldom use sites and when we do they are small ones
In a normal year we probably do about 60-70 nights (fewer this year). As we're teachers we manage two out of three half terms, a week or so at Christmas and Easter and about 4 weeks away in the summer. Add to that one weekend away or so each half term and it quickly adds up.
As we're teachers our holidays often consist of doing a lot of work, but it's nice to do it in different surroundings, and it's not all marking & planning.
We have had tents, trailer tent, tourer, static and now in a motorhome. We have always camped 12 moths a year and when we find somewhere nice we tend to stay a while hence the static. We went back to the motorhome for the freedom of just rocking up and staying a night or 2. We tend to do Scotland where we can stop virtually anywhere. This year has been a bad one with only 7 nights new year and a few over summer. Being tier3 no one wants to let us stay at present. A typical year would be away twice a month as I can work anywhere with wifi. Just need a method of charging the laptop as the leisure battery only seems to run the 12 items.
