I'm living in my motorhome between houses and due to the time of year am having to use the central heating all the time. I've done 3 days and used a 6kg propane bottle with a little cooking. Is this excessive?
We are out all year but not normally in one place so engine heater keeps us ok up front but static its eating gas.
yeah thats a lot! you should get at least 7 days out of it even at this time of year, look at what you have running, you dont need the water heater on permanently, only turn on for when you intend on doing dishes/getting a shower, turn the fridge down low, its cold enough to keep things frozen, and turn the fire down as low as you can, and turn off over night
oh and use a vacumme flask, refill it with the remaining hot water from the kettle, as that will save you having to boil it as often.
I would imagine that's not that bad, particularly if you are "home" most of the time with the heating on with the weather as cold as it has been recently. Motorhomes aren't that well insulated compared to a house, and propane always works out more expensive than natural gas.
Its about what I would expect in the winter, probably a bit on the high side but it depends on how much effort you make to keep the heat in. Internal and external insulation for the cab screen and side windows helps. In my t/a caravan I use about 6kg in 3 days when the daytime temp is varying between -6 at night and +3 in the daytime. If you are going to be dependent on gas I would seriously consider refillable bottles such as Safefill or even Gaslow if you are going out and about to fill up.
I tend to stay on sites with ehu in the winter months to help reduce the amount of gas used, but I have also changed over to Flowgas 10kg Gaslight bottles to reduce the need to swap bottles as often as 6kg bottles.

Thanks all. Was considering buying a bigger bottle and sitting it outside as 6kg is the max size for the side compartment. I'd go on a site but as we were tier 3 no sites open and out of the area tier2 will not let us on.

I think 3 days is about right for using gas to heat a caravan or m/home. When we lived in our caravan we had a 45kg bottle as that works out a lot cheaper than changing a 6kg bottle every couple of days.
