Hi
Looking to buy a citroen berlingo multispace micro camper, any tips on decent insurance company to get quote from please. Would be looking for normal day use included. So if anyone has similar and has found a decent company be appreciated to know. I am aware of comparison sites but doesn't mean they any good. Thanks.

Hi Sparky. Do you mean a Berlingo based factory built camervan or a Berlingo Multispace car with the removable Bootjump type camper interior ? If that then it can remain insured as a car because camper part can be lifted out when no being used as a camper.

Berlingo rear seats can be lifted out. They are not bolted down so ideal as a part time camper.

Thanks, no it's not a pull out one. It's a conversion but the seat has been left in but modified I think to make bed. However it's more the insurance company's I'm interested in. Don't want any hassle in case. Though I'm not planning on any accidents, haven't fully decided on model of micro yet. Due to lock down can't really go shopping. Thanks again.

I have just bought a Daihatsu Hijet pick up, with a demountable Romahome body. Is it a micro camper or is it a Pick up truck? Principal insurance say as far as they are concerned it's a camper, so that's good enough for me

If its being used as a camper then it's camper I guess. Not sure what legal problems arise if got removable camper parts in vehicle if accident happens. (not trying to create issue here.)

Looking at fiat doblo at moment.. Perhaps a conway conversion looks nice. Looking forward to going shopping. :)

To be a campervan it has to be registered as a motorhome. There is no actual classification as campervan the only term used is motorhome. If you are converting a van & want to change classification to motorhome then it has to be of a certain spec. You can search details of this. Plenty of info available.

With a Berlingo type vehicle unless you are buying one permanently converted which will presumably be registered as a motorhome then imho best way to go is the removable Bootjump idea then it stays as car & can be insured as one as conversion is removable so no different from carrying a load in the back.

That’s the way I am reading it. I am happy to be corrected.

According to conway camper, only high sided vans can have the V5 changed to camper/motothome Others stay as they were made.. However must be insured as campervan. That's what he emailed me the other day when I enquired.

The actual DVLA term for a suitably converted vehicle appears to be Motor Caravan.

There are no legal problems. The Romahome pod part has been established for 40 years. What I own is a Pick up truck with a permanent locked down load. It is recognised as a camper for Insuranc purposes. It is certainly not being driven as a pick up. Have a look at Susan Calman on a Friday evening, "A Grand Day Out" in which she is driving an identical one to mine around th country
