I am the new owner of a 1992 talbot express symphony autosleeper.
I am knew to this world and have somethings I need help with !
First is the fridge !!
I notice when the engine is running a little red light comes up under fridge on the control panel meaning it's on and working. Fab.
However, I csnt get this light on when I try and run it off the electric hookup? Therefore I have no idea if it works when plugged into the electrics.
Second question I have is, I know when the engine is running this charges the battery, but does the electric hook up also charge the battery?
Some things in the van only work when the 12v is switched on and I don't want to drain it. So I was curious as to whether if youre connected to EHU and have 12v.. does that keep it charged?
Hello and welcome to the mad and wonderful world of motorhomes and campervans.
Let's see. Good to know that the fridge seems to work on 12 volts. This really only keeps the fridge cool, so you may not notice as much cooling as on gas or mains. You don't state the model of fridge, but do you have additional switches and thermostats on the fridge itself? Make sure that they are switched on. Also check that the breakers on the mains consumer unit are ON.
EHU generally only charges the leisure battery, but this is not always the case. You will have to check your handbook if you have one, or do a bit of detective work. In some vans EHU can charge both batteries or you can select which one to charge.
The first new van that I owned was on a Talbot express. You might find it under-powered and the gear change can be like a wrestling match. However mine was reliable and took us all round the UK and Europe.
You're always free to ask questions and members are very helpful.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
The thing about these old vans is that nothing is as it seems. Your van at 29 years old has had bits added and removed. There is a fair bet that it bears little resemblance to the original. This is espcially true of electrics.
