Two things spring to mind, first my caravan fridge (3 way type) has a sliding plate on catch that allows you to either shut door tight (for use) or leave ajar (for out of use) for ventilation, this keeps the light out same as a completely shut door. Not obvious in itself, but mentioned in the manual, has yours not got a similar feature?
Second thing, do you not have a 12V isolation switch on control panel/circuit breaker/fuse panel, that you can simply flick off to isolate either the fridge or all 12v camper electrics.
It's always easier to give advice if you enter details (model, year etc.) of your campervan, as we can then usually identify where any switches and controls are.
A compressor fridge may have been an after market fitment unless your camper is pretty modern and more than likely a continental brand, as 3 way fridges are almost universal for older and UK brands. If it's a later addition, the wiring may not conform to any particular/known standard, so all the more difficult to advise.
