12v not working on 3 way Electrolux fridge model 42011994
with engine running my battery shows 14.3
turn on blower fan and it drops to 13.7
turn on 12 volt fridge switch and set to highest leave it a little while nothing changes
Compass Merit 355.

Puegeot 2500 diesel

Any help or advice would be appreciated ,

You say "leave it a little while" how long is that? Might take an hour before the fridge starts to get cold.

Designed to keep fridge cold after being on mains or gas. Not effective at making a warm fridge cold. Is there a light on facia to indicate power from 12v? If so, it’s probably working ok.

You may need an hour or so before you notice any appreciable cooling on 12V. It more tends to maintain a cold fridge while you're motoring.

However, check that all fridge switches are on (there are 2 in my van) and that any fuses are OK. If you have a test meter, you may be able to check the voltage at the fridge with it switched off. Switch it on and if the voltage drops, then it's drawing current and you just have to be patient.

Note that the fridge setting doesn't affect how fast it cools - just the final temp.

Surely ,there would be a instant voltage drop on my battery the moment I switch the fridge on.

which there clearly isn't

I don’t think so. The fridge draws its power from the car, not the caravan battery when running on 12v

I my meter IS hook-ed up to the car battery
(not the leisure battery),
and have engine running - and no drain on the car battery !

That's the issue. There would be very little (if any) drop at the battery. The drop would be at the fridge due to the resistance in the supply cables. So there are two things... are you getting 12V at the fridge and is it drawing current? If you can't insert a test meter into the circuit to measure the current, as least a voltage drop would indicate that the fridge is working.

If you get the chance, take the van for a good long run and see what happens.

I’m no auto-electrician, but is the relay not located between the alternator and the battery?
In either case, would the small draw of the fridge make any difference to the amount of power showing on your meter?

OK then.. By "nothing changes" you don't mean temperature, you mean battery voltage.

I would say then the fridge isn't pulling any current. So it's the element or selector switch, or thermostat, or bad connection.. 🤔

Yes, I would expect a voltage drop when the fridge is turned on. Most likely you have a blown fuse. Find out where the fuse for the fridge feed is and check it.

Don't you have to be driving along and running the engine before the 12v works, and that only after so many miles? Most 12v systems are designed just to keep food cool on a journey. When you are on a site with the eingine off, you either use EHU or gas to power it.

The 12v side of my fridge was never impressive. I just used to set off with food already cooled, some frozen meals and a few ice packs. In effect, I turned it into a coolbox for a journey.
