This is an appeal to Irish and British vehicle owners who have been sold an insurance write-off. I'm posting it here - I hope it's the right forum for it - because I understand that there are a few motor home owners who have been sold vehicles with a "history".

However the extent of the problem in both the UK and Ireland is an unknown. So if you or anybody you know has experience of this the online survey “Bridging the Gap” offers potential victims of these insurance write-off vehicles the opportunity to respond to specific questions for owners of mechanical vehicles including motor homes, camper vans, cars, vans, trucks, tractors and motorcycles.

Link to the website hosting the survey : https://investigativeresearch.org/bridging-the-gap-survey/

Some sellers try to pass off Category C (S) or Category D (N) vehicles as non-damaged motors by hiding their past. The buyer might not be aware the vehicle has previously been damaged and so could pay over the odds for an insurance write-off.

The survey is anonymous and none of the questions are mandatory.

This initiative is an Irish/Anglo collaboration of automotive engineers, law enforcement and research analysts, endorsed by the British National Vehicle Crime Intelligence Service and supported with a grant from the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund.

Can’t do the survey as we’ve never bought an insurance write off. We once went to view a Bambi, but the habitation end was visibly out of alignment, as if it had rolled. We walked away.

2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

I`ve never bought or sold one, but may have inadvertently (and involuntarily) contributed to the problem.

First trip to Ireland and my manafacturers plate was jemmied off my caravan in a secure area in Holyhead docks. I was readily compensated for a replacement by the ferry operator of the day (no names!), who privately admitted that they had a problem with some security staff who were `acquiring` legitimate manufacturers plates and selling them on....

I`m not pointing fingers, only stating what happened at the time. I drew my own conclusions, however.

Followed the link (just curious) and got this message from Firefox Browser:

HTTPS-Only Mode Alert Secure Connection Not Available You’ve enabled HTTPS-Only Mode for enhanced security, and a HTTPS version of www.righttoride.org.uk is not available. Learn More… What could be causing this?      Most likely, the web site simply does not support HTTPS.     It’s also possible that an attacker is involved. If you decide to visit the web site, you should not enter any sensitive information like passwords, emails, or credit card details. If you continue, HTTPS-Only Mode will be turned off temporarily for this site.

Ironic, given the subject matter.
