Hi, I read somewhere that to remove stubborn black staining from window rubber, etc, it was okay to use WD40.
Don't, I tried it.
I am now trying to find how best to remove the stain that the spray has left on the motorhome door. Nothing seems to shift it.
Anyone any ideas?

It is oil based. Should clean off with meths.

What Billy said it's oil based so should clean off with Methylated spirit.

Try lighter petrol if it is only on the surface, but if it has been absorbed into the paint the only answer is to repaint it.

I have used WD40 for many years both at work and at home, it is not wonder substance that many people believe it to be, it can cause serious problems. The most common problem is that it removes existing oil and grease, so unless the components are re-greased they can rust or seize.

Yes it is a good solvent on many substances and a reasonable water displacer (hence WD) but it is not a great lubricant and can cause damage to many plastics due to its solvent characteristics.

Is the door skin Aluminium or fibreglass? if the latter I suspect the WD40 has penetrated the gel coat and has stained the underlying fibreglass with the result of the solvent action on the black marks that you were trying to remove.

The tin does say not to spray it on tyres - maybe the rubber is not too dissimilar to window seals? Frustrating though! Let us know how you get on.
