We are getting our van later this year and was wondering is a R&R bed comfortable to sleep on or will we need some extra padding ? We are used to sleeping on a roll mat in the tent !

Some are better than others, when you have a seat that also has to be a bed there's always a compromise, a memory foam topper certainly wont do any harm.
Try it first on its own & then try your roll mat on top if it’s not comfy enough. A Memory foam mattress topper is a very bulky item to store & storage space can be more limited in a van compared to a caravan.
We find our R&R bed more comfortable than the foam mattress in our previous motorhome. We use a sleeping bag on top and honestly find its perfect, for us, without the need for a topper
I have a 3 seater top spec RIB R&R bed over £2000 i find it very hard
i used a memory form mat for a few trips but it takes up alot of storage space i now use an inflatable EXped mat which works really well i use it when i am tent camping as well this rolls into a small pack less than 30cm x 15cm so easy to store.
