A family friend spotted the caravan for sale on the internet This was the original advert & photos
Unfortunately our friend who put us on ro the caravan had spoken about wanting to do the NC500 & knew we had planned to convert a van into a campervan but unfortunately Dane died the day we picked up the caravan so our plan is to do the NC500 IN his memory
Hi Bobcat1812.
I’m being a bit slow - you’ve bought that caravan & you’ve also bought a van to convert yourself. Is that right? The van isn’t towing the caravan?
Plenty of info on NC500, it’s got its own website and lots of people here on UKCS have done it; several threads about it too, just use the Search tab.
Thanks for explaining.
Have a look at the definition of “motor caravan” in the DVLA website, because it’s quite specific about what’s required. Otherwise you stay classified as whatever the sprinter is classified as now, and tax / insurance may be different.
Caveat - that’s from reading the many threads here about DIY conversions, we’ve not done it ourselves.
Good luck with the project. Plenty of help on UKCS if you have problems.
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Sorry to here about Dane passing. That that is a nice touch to do the trip in there memory, will also give you some extra incentive. Hope the project is going well and the weather in kind to you.
I've recently bought a VW caddy maxi van and had it professionaly converted to a campervan. I told the insurance company what I was doing and they insured it as a camper vàn. But I arranged the road tax thro local post office as a van. Do I now have to advise DVLA of change of classification ? As a van it was a seven seater but as a camper an it is only a four seater .

And when you have complied with all their rules, they won't change the vehicle class anyway !
