Hi.
We did the WC500 in September hoping to miss the midges, but we didn't.Lol. The WC500 is awesome and I wish we had taken 3 to 4 weeks instead of 2.
The one thing I found out about long distance motorhoming is the wear and tear on your shoulder because of seat belt run. My shoulder was sore for weeks after we got.
So if i was someone going on a very long journey in their motorhome the first thing I would do is pad my right shoulder. It will save you a great deal of discomfort.
Couldnt believe the miles and miles of single track roads on the west coast. All the money seems to have been spent on the east coast. But seeing the west coast in its natural beauty was something else.
Won't do it again because it is too far and wife wasn't too keen to drive on those roads.
Round the coast of Ireland next.(Complete)
Cheers.
It’s the NC500, but we know where you mean. Glad you enjoyed it; we did it before it was so popular - Speeding is a huge problem now with idiots trying to drive it in the minimum time.
I have a sheepskin shoulder pad, very comfortable, but a tee shirt pad works as well.
The road infrastructure reflects the amount of traffic & the terrain - you just couldn’t build the east coast type of road on the west coast because the mountainous landscape is completely different there. We’re unlikely to get a continuous dual carriageway between Perth & Inverness because of terrain (& associated costs).
The coast of Ireland is beautiful. You’ll find the same east / west difference with the roads, mind. Give yourselves plenty of time! And let us know how you get on.
Wife put a towel on my shoulder to stop the rubbing.
If we ever did the NC500 again I don't think I would book sites. I think just taking pot luck on sites would give you more options and make your adventure more enjoyable.
Cheers

Sites have been full for the last couple of years, due to staycations (many in hired MHs), hence the massive problems of people parking on verges & in the dunes. You’d need to check in just after lunch to be sure of a place, no chance by late afternoon.
Good advice for Ireland from Mrs Bonce. It’s a longer circuit than the NC500 too.
We did the Round Ireland trip back in 2011 in our Swift Mondial. We did not book any sites, just took pot luck as we went along. We loved it and would happily go again.
