Good morning all!
('haven't posted for AGES, as we have been without a "proper" camper/MH for some time..)
We have just bought ourselves a 1997 Granvia(Wellhouse) and before we start using it in anger (we are still at the poking about and "where are the fuses for that?.." stage with it)I want to reproof the pop roof fabric...
As it is a far more "cotton-like" fabric than the tents we have had, I was unsure what would be best treat it with..? (we've just used Fabsil on the tents)
Any advice/guidance would be very much appreciated.
yes! leave it well alone, unless it is actually leaking. so soak it with plain water and your hose pipe, and leave for a while then go and put the hosepipe on it again while checking for leaks inside, if no leaks then just leave to 100% dry out.
Hi..Thank you for taking the time to reply.
The conversion is now about 10-12 years old? and although it may well've been reproofed over it's lifetime, for what little extra effort it would take, I think I would rather just use the time to reproof it "just in case"...
I had always(wrongly!) assumed that Fabsil was just for the "nylon-y" type of tent fabric but having read a bit more online this morning, it appears that it can also be used on the "cotton/light canvas" type material of my pop roof.
I'll get everything gathered together, and then just wait a while 'til the weather warms/dries a bit!
Thanks again..
fabsil was meant for canvas waterproofing, it doesnt work on nylon as it just runs right off.
it makes no difference the age of the item, it may never have been treated in the past and by doing so you would then have to be doing it every year, where as if you followed what i said first you could save that job, the thing is if your camper hasnt been used for a long time the fabric will have dried right out, what you need to do is get the thread to swell up again hence why i said to soak first and then retry with the hosepipe
