Yes, have used it via personal hotspot on my phone. Performs really well. Watched a movie on HD. for the future we will change the settings to view in Standard definition as this will use less data. Need a decent 4G signal though and a decent data package from provider. I have 120 GB package and only ever use it when travelling, I don’t use it at home.
It really depends on how much you want to use the stick when you are away.
Yes sammy use it most of the time when away we have our firestick twinned with my phone and the wifes phone, mines on smarty and the misses is on EE we never had a problem yet.
We have changed the settings on the FS to not use HD download as this saves a fair bit on data usage
We tether our firestick to my phone all the time and it works well as long as you have good mobile reception. Remember to go to your firestick settings and change the streaming quality from ‘best’ to ‘good’ so that you use less data.
Must mention in case you aren't aware, using a firestick abroad is more difficult now due to data caps and roaming charges EE is too expensive for us to use abroad and Smarty is capped at 12gb 60 GB here in uk (£10.00) we tend to buy a local sim card and use a VPN which is not needed on your uk sims if you have paired them in the uk.
Be aware that everything keeps changing regarding use of data abroad
