New to motorhoming! ... Is it possible, with the right sat dish, to pick up UK TV or Sky or BBC etc in the South of France? What size dish would be required, if it's possible at all and what satellites do you need to connect to? Thanks in advance if you can help.

Assuming that you have a smartphone, you can get a satellite director app. You need 28.2E Astra 2F. Once you have the right size dish of course.

Thanks for the replies so far - I will be looking to buy an auto dish which can find what it's set to find. That IS possible isn't it? I'd rather that than mess about with an app! S 28.2E Astra 2F? I'll remember to tell the people who fit it - would that cover Spain as well? I'm hoping the person who fits the dish to my new motorhome will know all about which satellites it will need but I'm in France and never trust local artisans! Actually they're a highly regarded chain so should be OK !! ...

We had a Satfi Dome and it worked for Sky as far down as Alcossbre just north of Valencia no problem. A normal Sky dish worked there no problem. For Sky a 85cm dish is more than ample.
We now have a Oyster self seeking twin LNB auto skew 85cm sat dish mounted on our caravan. No issue with reception. Bought and installed by S& G Home Leisure

On our previous motorhome we had an automatic 85 cms dish and we received a good signal as far south as Carcassonne. You do need clear view of the sky. These dishes are not cheap, probably now between £2000/2500 fitted.

Yes, forgot to mention that you need a clear view to the SSE. No trees or buildings in the way. Google maps help.

With a 85cm dish you may get away with a tree in the way as we found out in France. Tree was almost in direct line of sight. I am sure that if we still had the dome or a 65cm dish at the time, we would not have had any signal.

Don't forget that with a roof mounted dish you may need to move your unit to find a clear view of the satellite.
With a tripod mounted dish you can simply move the dish.

We have never had that issue as suss out the pitch or location first using Google Earth and the site map. Unfortunately this may not work on a site that allocates pitches, but you can always ask to be allocated another pitch

I have found a good few sites that we would have gone to at one time, with trees to the south, using that method. Doesn't work on new sites where the maps have not been updated...

Thanks for your info. We are having the motorhome fitted with a Teleco Flatsat 85cm dish and a decoder which the company tells us will get us Sky UK .. we're not so sure. How will they connect it up? We have a Sky UK account, registered to a UK address but we live in France and the m/h will be kept here. Do you know if they can use our UK info or will we have to take out another subscription? Is Freesat any good? We don't know! The only Sky in France supplier I asked simply said I wouldn't get many channels with an 85cm dish which wasn't much help!
Any advice welcome!

We have the Sky+HD box with the RF outlet and the Oyster dish so are able to use the magic eye. The box is kept under the front nearside bunk. We also split the signal so that we can have another TV in the bedroom area.
The sat dish should automatically find the correct frequency for Sky TV. The Sky Q box will not work unless you have the Sky Q LNB sat fitted. The good news is that the Sky Q card will work in the Sky+HD box and you should get all of your subscription channels.
