Hello.
Seasoned camper but brand new to campervan!
First outing this weekend and not sure what hose I need for CCC sites for filling our on board water tank. It has a outside fill bit . Will I need funnel? Do I need a screw fitting , push fitting etc on hose? Help please! Any other useful advice very much appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by outside fill bit
We have 2 ways to fill: a Whale unit under a sliding cap that you will have a long blue pipe for, with a screw thread one end & a gadget at the MH end. Use at the standpipe or at a fully serviced pitch. It stops automatically when you’re full, you have to set for external pump at the control unit inside the MH. If you’re on a serviced pitch, it just pumps when you’ve used water.
We also have a locking filler cap with a blue water symbol, the hose (at home or on site) just pokes inside, no funnel needed.
You should carry your own food grade water pipe, not all independent sites have a hose reel. Ours has a funnel shaped end so we usually have to hold it on at the tap end.

Ah! Weird. So we don't connect onto the stand pipe at the service point then? 🤔 As I say, we ve just bought it and it only came with the hookup cable . No hose.

You normally have to get your own hose. Some sites have a hose attached at water points. I would recommend a fairly long bit of hose but separated into a shorter and longer one with connectors, access to taps can be very variable.
Also recommend a filler cap that has a hose attachment for when you fill up, it makes it easier for one person to do it.

The low tech approach which I use is to use a separate container for drinking water and carry a cheap watering can for topping up the on-board tank. I travel with some water in the tank and add some when I arrive on site. I don't use fully serviced pitches.

I can't say I've ever been on a site where I've even SEEN water on individual pitches. That's a bit posh. Hose and watering can sounds like the job.

Never use a hose pipe that's not yours, it could have been contaminated. We have 100 Lt water tank in our van,never set out with over40 Lt and top it up with a watering can.

Something like this would do it.

Just connect to nearest drinking water supply. At pitch or at service point.
Simply poke other end in outside filler hole and wait until water overflows out of the filler hole.

I carry 2 collapsible blue water hose, a 5m and a 10m, along with tap connectors like the ones at home for the gardening hose.

The tap connector has a push/click connector that fits onto a screw-on fitting that I attach to the tap.

Hope that makes sense.

It’s called a Serviced pitch. Your own tap, grey water drain & sometimes a TV point. Sometimes you pay more for it, sometimes it’s included because all the pitches have the full Monty, including the grass tent pitches (Speyside Gardens at Aberlour, for example).
The one point to take from this is: there’ll always be a tap, you can fill a water bottle; my parents’ VW campervan didn’t have a water tank in the mid 1960s. Metal tent, in effect.

That is how we fill up, we never use hoses provided by the site but if you must, never ‘Dip’ the hose into your filler neck as you don’t know where it’s been.

Hygiene is important, we use antibacterial spray on the tap first before connecting.

As an old school Water Authority employee I never drink from ‘tanked’ water, this water is for washing up toilet flushing and showering only.

For drinking water we buy cheap bottled water from the Supermarket and fill bottles from the tap when empty after sterilisation of tap.

Don’t take the gamble with your health, there are nasty pathogenic microorganisms out there.
