Welcome to UKCS. Ratty keeps a database of stolen MHs & caravans, have a look because it gives the context of the theft - it doesn’t seem to matter if you have an alarm or tracker, or if the vehicle is in a secure compound, if someone wants your MH then they’ll plan & they’ll take it. A good steering wheel lock may deter the opportunist passing thief - always put it on, even in a supermarket car park.
BTW, congratulations on getting a new MH. Friends ordered one after Christmas 2021 and still don’t have it: delivery now January 2023. Allegedly.
I don’t personally own one but given the cost of them I would fit both a top rated tracker and alarm and also get it mark ie: data tag or the likes.
As Fiona says a good steering wheel lock too, but like she also says if somebody wants it bad enough then B they will take it , just make it as difficult and as awkward as you possibly can.
We are insured with CaravanGuard for our MH. See here trackers for list of their approved trackers and their catagories - S7 the best I believe - we have Sargent tracker fitted to our Autotrail. Also use steering wheel lock or you could try the clutch claws. Anything to make it harder to steal than the one next to you.
Does a new motorhome not come with an alarm, I would have thought so given the cost.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
When I purchased my new motorhome I was told that many insurance companies don’t insist on alarms but they do want trackers.
I went with that and had the tracker fitted. Like others I believe if the scum bags target it they have the nous to steal it.
I have a wheel clamp plus steering wheel lock. I reckon with one end flattened on a scaffolding pole it wouldn’t take long to just break them off.
I think all you can do is slow them down and make it less attractive to steal. We also park our car in front of the Motorhome.
You just do your best!
Trackers are the best, but for drawing attention to would-be thieves trying to hot-wire the ignition I always switch off, turn the radio up to full blast and hope their activities will be well-advertised when power is restored to the radio!
ps: the radio must, of course, be wired into the ignition system, not stand-alone.
Make sure that it is a proactive tracker like a Phantom Tracker. Alarm is useless as no one takes any notice due to so many false alarms in the early days.
