Getting to know my recently acquired Talbot Express Sienna Campervan!

I have done basic wiring in my kitchen in my house when I installed our new kitchen mainly by myself but the zig unit in the camper and 12v batteries and van wiring is all quite alien to me so far!

The domestic elecs in the camper work when zig panel is switched to the car battery which is all well and good but when it comes to going away in it I guess it will not be long before I get stuck somewhere with a flat car battery.

When I try switching to Leisure battery, nothing. I know the LB is brand new. Where do I start to find out what the problem is? Or should I just seek out a caravan engineer?

Can anyone recommend a caravan engineer in Central Scotland?

I would most likely suggest a fuse in the line from the battery to the Zig is duff. Either that or a bad connection either at the battery of the selector switch.   Do you have a test meter?

Does your van have a mains charger? sometimes the power from the leisure battery goes via a connection on the charger.

Instead of a caravan engineer I would get in touch with your nearest caravan / motorhome dealer and ask them to recommend and auto electrician that they use.

I know of an excellent one, but just too far away for you.

As said there should be a 20amp fuse in the wire between the leisure battery and the Zig unit. Usually placed near the battery. If not look for fuse at the unit.

It may be a faulty change over switch or the earth (negative) from the leisure battery. check the terminals are tight, then follow the negative and see where it goes, if attached to the chassis disconnect and clean back to bare metal the chassis and terminal, refit then once tight smear Vaseline or dielectric grease over it to prevent further corrosion.
