I have been advised to put heating in motorhome while it's sitting in the drive so.looking for advice as to what is best and obviously cheapest to run.

Welcome...if you can plug your van into EHU at home I would do so, more to top up your batteries (both) rather than the heating. I do occassionally put a small oil filled radiator on in ours, but ours lives indoors.

Or spend an afternoon/evening in it and put your truma/alde on to give it a run through.

If you are not using your Motorhome for a long Period then its not worth heating it as this can create more condensation and will add to your heating bill for no reason. leave all the internal cupboards doors and fridge open then place cheap throw away dehumidifiers around the Motorhome, I put one in the bathroom and one on the countertop, for larger motorhomes maybe another in the lounge area. I also always have one of those windscreen dehumidifier bags placed in the cab near the windscreen, particularly if using the internal windscreen covers. They need changing every 4-6 weeks but keeps the air inside dry and the Motorhome mold free.

Ventilation is required to keep damp at bay, if there's no difference between the outside and internal areas the damp in the atmosphere won't settle on internal surfaces.

Sounds like a faff! When it’s cold we just plug in & set the thermostat at 10 deg. In our previous 30 year old MH, we plugged in the oil filled radiator if the temperature was low. Dehumidifier for a while maybe, but we reckoned it was just sucking water from the outside air as the MH wasn’t well sealed at the habitation door.
Damp is more the issue, opening the cupboard & wardrobe doors stopped the mildew; warmer air holds more water than colder air.
Oh, and empty the fridge, leave the door ajar. Or else everything in there goes green - damp & no ventilation.

Heating for my van both diesel and electric.

The diesel heater is a combined hot water and heater one from Webasto. There is an immersion heater booster for hot water.

The Dometic air conditioning unit has a winter mode that trickles between 5 to 10 degC when plugged into the mains electricity when parked outside my house.

I tried keeping the van warm at low temperature when she was parked outside my house the first winter and found it used up diesel quite quickly.

That's when I looked up to see if the air con unit had a winter mode.

As I have a drop down bed, I have to lower the bed in order to operate the air conditioning unit on the roof.

Heating is quicker with the diesel heater and less noisy than the air con unit.
