Having an idle moment and haven't really seriously thought this through. However, I was wondering if there is a vehicle like a Berlingo (I've not seen the inside of one, just the shape and general layout/look seems appealing) or bit larger which could fit 2 adults sleeping comfortably SIM plus sleeping bag flat in the rear, with a bit of space for some kit. Or, what's the smallest vehicle that could accommodate 2 adults sleeping. Realize space expectations vary widely but .. and know this is vague but thought I'd ask.
Anyone used anything similar for an occasional alternative to tenting? I've seen one or two but never close enough to see accommodation or how it was used.

You might like a look at Amdro I like the idea of one but have never had a proper look in the flesh as it were.

It would have to be one that you could remove the passenger seats from & leave them at home (we have a Škoda estate but the rear seats don’t fold to a flat enough base for sleeping).
Or just buy a Romahome & use it as your only vehicle.
I have seen a German registered VW Golf, the taller model (plus pop top roof) on a UK site, they still needed an awning for cooking.
And I’ve seen threads here by people who convert a vehicle boot with fitted removable boxes so they can cook etc but I think they sleep in the awning tent.

Can you tell me what the taller VW Golf is, as I've never heard of such a beast.
Very curious, as you say a car with a pop top roof.

Thanks I'm very ill informed about these kind of options so good to have a few pointers. Will research a bit further though would be nice to hear from anyone who actually uses one.

We've seen people sleeping in similar vehicles in France, appear to be self converted, and they cook outside. We used to sleep the odd night in the back of either an estate car, or a VW Touran which had to be levelled first.

My brother in law has a Skoda Yeti that he can remove the seats from the back ; he has a sleeping platform that he can put in the back capable of sleeping 2

Might be a Tiguan? A Golf with a higher seating position. However, there are a number of YouTubes under “VW Golf microcamper” showing conversions.

Doubt it would be a Tiguan as physically it's nothing like a Golf.
It could be a Touran.

I do see a VW Caddy with a pop top roof, that's probably what it was.
I have seen these in France, very snug.

That’s the one! Thanks.
The Cars section of the weekend paper listed the reviewers’ best cars of the year & included the Ford Grand Tourneo Connect. “… much better value than the VW Caddy on which it’s based”. Looks like it would make a microcamper.

I have a Peugeot Partner Teepee but have not camped in it.
The back seats are 3 separate seats. Each has a lever allowing the seat back rest to tilt flat forwards. A pull bar behind that allows the whole seat to fold forwards or the seat to lift out in a folded position for ease of carrying.

The back is then approx 6ft x 4 ft of flat floor. You could sleep on that if needed.

The rear door hinges up forming a very useful roof you can stand upright under. You can buy a tent which clips to the roof to add sides if you want.

The back passenger doors are sliding and the seats have picnic tables each with a full seatbelt and ISO fixings for kiddie seats.

I have the 1.6 diesel which easily does 50 mpg and is very comfortable in use being a good motorway cruiser.

Thanks Navver. I didn't realise they were 'a thing' so spent a few hours on youtube with microcamper options, all the way from fully fitted mini versions of a campervan to the basic shell with a flat floor. Interesting stuff. I'd looked before but didn't obviously use the right search term. Think I'd be more interested in the basic shell with a flat floor space big enough for a simple wood framed bed platform, as per Navver as I like to cook etc outside and gives maximum flexibility for daily plus camping use.
What a pity the Skoda Yeti was discontinued as I've always thought that would be a sensible space upgrade on what we already have (Jazz) which is only just big enough with the sports kit we take along.

I have a converted VW Caddy Maxi Life. Pop top roof, single bed (but you could fit a small double, which would pull out and make a seat during the day), small compressor fridge, ehu, small sink with lever cold water pump, leisure battery, storage and a few other things I've probably forgotten. I kept the bench seat in the rear, it folds flat to make up the end of the bed. In the winter, it's a four seater MPV. I do take a drive away awning, if I'm going away for more than a few nights. :)

Berlingo owner here! My girlfriend and I manage to both fit in mine. I have a "boot jump" as they call it and it just folds out when im at site and boom got a bed. It has a draw with my hob in and enough space to store all my utensils and i manage to fit quite comfortably with her in the back and im 6ft and 20 stone! Granted I cant stand but theres the outdoors for that

We have also been considering buying a Berlingo. We've watched so many You Tubes ...! Best one to view I think is The Old Windsors, their set up is amazing and their videos of their changes are very instructive.
