Hi, we need to purchase a new awning. We like the drive away with the inflatable poles. However, all the ones I like have a sewn in groundsheet. One campsite we have used won't allow ground sheets. They allow us but only if we lift it every day. Do you have problems on campsites generally? The awnings I'm looking at don't tell me if the groundsheets are breathable as then it would be okay. Any advice or suggestions pls? We've got a VW T5. Thank you

In the several years that we've camped in our van we've never been to a site that has an issue with groundsheets.

We stay on different types of sites: CAMC, C&CC, independents big and small and it hasn't ever been mentioned so, unless you really love this particular site and use it a lot, I would go ahead with your preferred awning option and give the site a miss (or camp awning-less for that trip?).

FYI our awning is an Outdoor Revolution Cayman Combo Air. I think the groundsheet may be removable but don't quote me (we never remove it but it's attached with velcro in some parts hence me thinking it may all come away) and we've been happy with it this past year.

Only relevant if the awning is on grass anyway, more and more sites are investing in hard standing.

-------------
2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

I've certainly seen in T and Cs on some sites that only breathable groundsheets used and/or lifted everyday for a few hours - an impossible task for a tent/awning with SIG and how many modern tents don't have a SIG!

Generally found for a stay of no more than a week, the grass doesn't suffer too much anyway, in a few days it's recovered. Don't think I'd beat myself up over using a SIG!

Thank you all for your replies. Marg the site doesn't allow tents. It's a site we really like and we usually have a HUGE area to ourselves but it is grass! They do have hardstanding so we'll have to use one of those and not spread out as much 🤭
