Hi my leisure batteries arent charging when im hooked up, they charge fine when im travelling. Ive noticed to my battery charger also isnt working when hooked up. Ive got a mk6 transit and the batteries and charger are at least 7 years old. Any help would be great.
The only way to get a positive answer is to undertake a test with a voltmeter. Switch off the mains supply, remove the leisure battery, connect the voltmeter to the positive and negative terminals then switch on the mains supply again. You should get a reading of about 14 volts if the onboard charger is working okay so if it's anything less than 13.8 volts then it proves that the charger is defective. If the test proves to be satisfactory then you need to take tests with the battery to see if it's holding a charge or not. If it's not then you need a new leisure battery.
Check the battery charger is switched on.
Check the battery charger is plugged in at the back (kettle style plug).
Check the battery charger fuse.
Check the battery charger output (approx 14v).
If none above resolve the problem, you need a new/reconditioned charger.
------------- I came into this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left.
The make of van doesn't usually matter - it's the conversion and the type of charger that may be relevant. Is it a separate charger eg. Zig or one built in as part of the power control panel?
In either case, proceed as suggested. Check the O/P from the charger and look for an inline fuse on the feed to the battery. The charger might be OK, but there's a break in a cable somewhere.
