Having been scammed over a purchase of a motorhome, we are very nervoius about using FB or EBay to buy a cheap motorhome and would prefer to be able to buy through a dealer. Does anyone know of dealers in the East Midlands/East Anglia regions who might be selling vehicles up to, say £10k or £15k?

Not my part of the world, but I suggest you look at Autotrader Motorhomes within a search area round your post code. You can also just look on-line for dealers in your area / county.

Thanks Capn. We've done all that, I'm afraid and only come up with campervans. Not what we are after, as there's 2 of us oldies and 2 dogs. I do keep revisiting though. As for dealers, most of them seem to start at around the £40k mark.

Thank you Stuart (nice to see that you are still contributing :) ). It's an idea that we hadn't thought of. I guess dealers must have trade-ins from time to time too, so we might see where those go...

There are few dealers in my area, so we resigned ourselves to looking further afield for a suitable van. We eventually found our current van 120 miles from home.
I think you might also have to look over a wide area to find what you want.

I think you might also have to look over a wide area to find what you want.
I searched adverts all over the country, and found my van just half a mile from my house. You can never know where you will find one. Just don't part with money until you are sure. Make the seller wait as if they are genuine, they will not mind.

Thank you everybody - some useful advice.
We are just waiting to see whether the bank can get any money back for us before we go ahead with looking again. We thought that we had done all the checks, the van was a long distance away so we were unable to view, but we weren't being pushed by the "dealer" and after we paid they even messaged us with alternative dates for delivery. That is why we would much prefer to buy something within travelling distance - husband has a kidney complaint, so we are unable to be away from home for more than a day.
An added complication is that we need to buy an automatic and they are few and far between!
