Hi! I have 51 plate Hobby 600 on Fiat Ducato, 2.8
Engine will not rev above 3000- is there a rev limiter fitted as standard? Any ideas as to cause, pleasey!

If this is recent it sounds like the engine has gone into limp-mode. Manufacturers don't usually fit rev-limiters keeping revs down that low, if one is fitted it usually limits revs to somewhere around the red line on the tacho.

I’m not a mechanic.
Online: “This could be from low fuel pressure, a clogged fuel filter, a clogged air filter, a faulty throttle cable, carpet blocking the throttle pedal, ignition system failures, computer problems, timing belt jumped, transmission, exhaust, and the list goes on.28 Apr 2016” (website doesn’t seem to exist when I tried to copy it. I had this happen in a car but so long ago that I can’t remember what the mechanic said it was.)

and it could also be a egr valve problem!

A mechanic should be able to plug in a fault code reader or diagnostic computer which would give an indication of any issues.

My van won't rev over 3000 when it's stationary, or about 3500 when driving. The garage man said that this correct to prevent over-revving. Not sure about that, but 2500 rpm = 60 mph in 5th gear which seems OK.

Thanks for your reply! Surely, default Ducato 2.8 should rev freely up to, say, 4500.
My garage man says no other faults- sends me to have it reprogrammed!

Do Hobby 600 limit the revs to 3000?

Would doubt it would be anything to do with Hobby, it's down to the base vehicle manufacturer.

I have no idea about what Hobby might do, but I would have thought any diesel of that size should rev freely to the red line, often around 4,500 as you say. Larger diesels such as those in buses, coaches and trucks would be lower revving.

However, if there are no other problems with it and it drives ok, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

My garage said no faults on diagnostics, silencer not bunged up, no catalytic converter, no waste gate, no egr-too old…

That does sound very much like it had gone into limp-mode for some unexplained reason. Limp-mode does usually limit revs of a diesel to around 3,000rpm. Disconnecting the battery has cleared the limp-mode.
