Hi guys,
Completely new to all this but took a huge risk and bought a 1996 VW autosleeper talent off a couple who knew nothing about it but inherited it from their dad. When I viewed it I assumed the battery was just dead however I have plugged it into the mains and no lights on the zig!! Any help for a complete novice will be very much appreciated xxx
Have a look at the MCB's (circuit breakers) to see if they are switched on. If they have tripped then you won't get any 240 volt power at all.
Also, don't assume that the battery was dead, get a voltmeter and check to see what voltage is the battery as it takes all the guess work out of trying to trace any faults.
Welcome to UKCS. You’d be wise to get a Habitation Service done too, unless the handbook has a date stamp that’s within a few years. We bought our elderly MH off an old gent who went fishing in it, a few things weren’t working, so we got a Hab service done & the engineer found that our gas fire flue was blocked by a bird nest. (There was no CO monitor, so we fitted one of those too.)
That aside, I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun in your new-to-you van. There’s lots of advice on here for people just like you, so do a search with a coffee & mince pie to hand.
Amazing thanks! Got a steady dim red light on the zig now but no lights. The socket is working. I couldn’t locate the battery anywhere inside the van (checked under all seats) but I think it might be under the bonnet cos there’s two batteries one possibly the leisure battery?!
